This course aims to increase awareness of drug and alcohol awareness and its impact on physical and psychological health and addiction. It examines the different types of drugs that are on the traditional illicit market as well as new psychoactive substances that are changing the way that people are abusing substances. The learning objectives for this course are as follows:

  1. To understand the different levels of drinking and what problem drinking is
  2. To be able to recognise what alcohol does the body
  3. To understand what a drug is
  4. To understand the difference between drug use and problematic drug use
  5. To be aware of the problems that drugs can cause individuals
  6. To understand the difference between physical and psychological dependence
  7. To know what psychoactive substances are
  8. To be able to recognise the different categorisation of drugs and know some examples of each
