Substance misuse means the inappropriate use of substances by young people, whether it is too much, too soon, or too early. Basically, as soon as drugs or alcohol start affecting a person in a bad way, it is substance misuse.

This course will look at the process of how a drug habit can become an addiction, and what support is available if you’re in that situation.

You need to have completed the Drug and Alcohol Awareness Course before you start.

In this course we will look at:

  1. The most dangerous and least dangerous substances
  2. The short and long-term consequences of drug use
  3. How substance use affects choices, control, and addiction
  4. Harm reduction techniques for substance misuse

This course meets the Training, Support, and Development Standards as outlined in The Fostering Services (England) Regulations 2011.
